The Cluster offers a platform for dialogue on topics relating to green and sustainable finance and involves all relevant stakeholders such as corporates, policymakers, civil society, and academics. Its central objectives – creating transparency and supporting standardisation with regard to sustainability on financial markets – can only be achieved in close cooperation and open exchange with all parties involved.
In addition, the Cluster considers its own innovation goal only as fulfilled if most of the German financial industry benefits from the opportunities of transformation towards more sustainable financial systems.
This area of action encompasses events such as conferences, lecture series, workshops and seminars, the commissioning and support of scientific studies, as well as active support of regulatory processes and positioning on current legislative procedures. In addition, the Cluster promotes close cooperation with national players in the sustainable finance movement and interaction with other international sustainable finance centres and initiatives.
Further education
The Cluster publishes an overview of Sustainable Finance training offers
Building expertise and capacity is one of the key challenges for the rollout of Sustainable Finance. Financial institutions are looking for experts in the field in areas as diverse as risk management, public affairs and strategy.
Training providers are trying to counteract the shortage of skilled staff with continuing education programmes. In the growing landscape of offers, however, there is a lack of tools that allow a quick overview of different training offers. For this reason, the Cluster has compiled an overview of the offers of training providers.
Directly to overview
You can access the overview of Sustainable Finance Trainings (German only) via the following link.
The overview of training offers does not claim to be complete, but will be supplemented periodically. If you have any suggestions or proposals for additions, please contact us at info@gsfc-germany.com.
Our observations
From the compilation we were able to gain some impressions that we are happy to share. This is a snapshot. We are very pleased that the landscape of offerings is developing dynamically.
- Most of the training offered is geared towards basic training.
- Specialised Sustainable Finance training courses exist, for example, in the areas of investment advice/investments and transformation of energy systems. Dedicated training in the area of sustainable finance-related risk management has not yet been observed.
- Many training providers develop tailor-made training for financial institutions and non-financial companies. In this context, there is often also the possibility of purchasing specialised training.
- The offer of dedicated Sustainable Finance programmes at universities is limited. Often, sustainable finance modules are offered as part of Master-of-Finance programmes. This observation is in line with calls from leading scholars in the field for a systematic integration of sustainable finance into curricula instead of niche educational offerings.

„In order to stop climate change – the effects of which have long since been noticeable – enormous investments are needed. This is why we are embracing the idea of private capital also being invested according to the principles of sustainability. The Cluster aims at further promoting this movement.“
