Eurex Clearing will release the new ESG Clearing Compass on April 3. It will include two services: the ESG Portfolio Assessment and the ESG Visibility Hub. With these new services, Deutsche Börse aims to support the sustainable transformation of clearing members and their clients by creating more transparency and awareness regarding cleared portfolios and counterparties.
For the cluster’s March newsletter Nils Hums* spoke to Christina Sell, Chief Sustainability Officer Trading and Clearing at Deutsche Börse AG, about the ESG Clearing Compass.
What are the main challenges of the financial market in context with ESG Data from your perspective?
Christina Sell: Many market participants still struggle with incomplete, inconsistent or insufficient data but also with insufficient expertise to understand and apply available data.
What are the benefits of using the Eurex ESG Clearing Compass?
Sell: Our members can efficiently receive high-quality ESG data via established channels. By creating more transparency and awareness with regards to cleared portfolios and counterparties we aim to support the sustainable transformation journey of our customers.

Which ESG data are applied in context with the service?
Sell: Initially we focus on aggregated environmental data which we provide in context with the portfolio assessment option. Furthermore, clients can comfortably compare self-declared ESG information of clearing members at the “ESG Visibility Hub” on our website.
What is your expectation concerning the future of the ESG Clearing Compass?
Sell: We hope to expand our new service based on further needs expressed by market participants soon. There are already numerous ideas in the pipeline.

„In order to stop climate change – the effects of which have long since been noticeable – enormous investments are needed. This is why we are embracing the idea of private capital also being invested according to the principles of sustainability. The Cluster aims at further promoting this movement.“
